THE SURROUNDINGS

Panormo is a picturesque village set beside a quaint small fishing harbor with narrow streets, traditional tavernas and a variety of small shops. Visitors can choose between two idyllic sandy beaches of clear blue Mediterranean sea waters. The main village beach is next to the small fishing harbour and it is an ideal beach when windy. The second beach is just opposite our hotel. A clear sandy and spacious beach which offers the comfort of sunbeds and beach umbrellas for hire.

During the summer, the village is closed to traffic and the tavernas fill the narrow lanes with tables serving fresh fish and other traditional meze. The atmosphere is both lively and inviting. The bars are friendly and the local shop keepers and always helpful.

HIGHLIGHTS

Panormo is a village full of warmth and hospitality, where visitors will be delighted with the surrounding sights. Popular places of interest are the Greek Orthodox monasteries of Tali which date back to the 1st century or the Morgoritles Village 12km away where traditional local pottery is made. Arkadi also attracts visitors from around the island of Crete where the Monastery of Arcadi can be found.

For more lively attractions there is the old town of Rethymno which is well worth a visit and only a short car drive from Panormo. Everywhere in Rethymnon old town there can be found small traditional tavernas, which combine good food and magnificent views. There are also plenty of “Cafenion” ideal for enjoying a raki. During the summertime a wide range of cultural events take place. The highlight is the Renaissance festival, which plays host from June till September on the Fortezza, to a great variety of theater, music and dance performances. Every July the people of Rethymno celebrate the Cretan Wine Festival where free wine is offered to the visitors.

EXPLORING THE VILLAGE

Visitors can stroll around the narrow cobbled streets, busy with cafes, souvenir shops and ethnic crafts and arts. Local museums, bars with live music, many tavernas and restaurants, clubs, shops and much more attract tourists year after year.

Well worth mentioning is the mini train of Panormo just outside the hotel which can transfer you to all your short and long trips in and around the local area. The entire round trip takes approximately 30 minutes and can be a great way to see most of the local areas, and also an ideal and fun way for kids to explore.
